I’ve been so looking forward to this one… The kids are still a bit young for the stories, and I think Alistair put it in our fun calendar more for me than them, but I think they still enjoyed the day.

First, we had a Potions class where we got an egg to float, (kinda) made rain in a glass, (tried to make) rice dance, and created a growing potion!
In Charms, we learned how to make a feather levitate (Ron’s old wand worked the best! ). And Alistair tried his hand at a little Transfiguration with his Paw Patrol pups. He also created a game where you had to find and catch snitches!

But not everything went as planned. A couple of the potions didn’t really work right and I didn’t have the showmanship skills to keep the kids attention while I tried to follow the directions for the potions. Not to mention, the Pinterest butter beer copycat recipe was a major disappointment!

Even as I post about these fun days, I want to be clear—I do not have everything figured out. Like everyone else, I don’t have enough time to work, keep house, and interact with the kids. I let them have too much screen time, the sink is always overflowing with dishes, and there’s generally 2-3 baskets of laundry that need folding and putting away. I get stressed, tired, mean, and snippy.

But every day, for at least a few minutes, I make an attempt at doing something fun and memorable together. That’s my “one thing” for the day. Because, right now, looking forward to those fun moments together is all we have, and it’s what I hope we remember.
